My Story

Welcome to my story! I am Deborah Lee Prescott, a writer, educator, and lifelong learner. My journey has been shaped by a deep passion for storytelling, a love for animals, and an enduring curiosity about the world around us.

From my early days, I have been captivated by the power of stories to connect us, teach us, and inspire us. Whether through the pages of a book or the experiences of those who lived through history, I believe that stories hold the key to understanding our past and shaping our future.

Meet the Author

Passions that began in my childhood are still with me. Here are just a few: desiring to know how and why something like Nazi Germany and the Holocaust could have happened. Loving animals, especially dogs. Walking, always best with a dog. Reading, something I need as much as air to breathe. Writing to explore thoughts and to offer insights. Traveling to discover the world.

I am fortunate that my life gives me the time, space, and opportunities to pursue these long-held interests.

After earning a BA and MA in English, I focused my interests in the Holocaust, writing, and reading as I earned my doctorate. In my dissertation, I examined the often-surprising references found in Holocaust survivors' autobiographies to Scripture, specifically, Genesis. Some people find that they lose interest in the topic of their dissertation due to the many hours of being immersed in the subject, but that was not the case with me. I constantly want to learn more. Recently, I have turned my attention to courageous Christians who stood up to the Nazi regime.

If you would like me to talk to your club, school, or religious group about my writing and its subject matter, please go to the Connect page. If I can attend, be it in person or by video conference, I will be honored to do so.

The Spark Behind the Stories

Deborah Lee's writing is deeply personal. Her children's books were inspired by her own pets—each one a quirky, lovable companion with a tale to tell. Her historical fiction, on the other hand, emerges from her years of study, teaching, and reflection on one of history's darkest periods. She hopes her stories help children think with compassion and grow into thoughtful, independent adults.

Educator & Speaker

Deborah Lee brings her stories and scholarship to schools, libraries, and classrooms across the country. Her goal? To inspire the next generation with age-appropriate, historically grounded lessons that promote courage, kindness, and critical thinking.
